UCIRI´s basic rules

1)  All members must be active members who fight together in solidarity.  We will not accept opportunists or members who do not want to work for the organization.

2)  All participants must be honest in their work.  We do not want coyotes – independent buyers who take advantage of our hard work.  For this reason we also stand against the cultivation of marijuana and the consumption of inebriating substances.

3)  We will fight for the good of all members of our communities, regardless of religion or race.

4)  We must take always take full part in all meetings and assemblies.

5)  We will not fight solely to improve the prices of our main product, our coffee.  We know fully well that our pride and freedom can not be bought nor can they be sold.  Our health, our homes, our warehouse, our common heritage, our school, our families, our languages, our local customs and our celebrations are of equal importance to us.

6)  Our organization will remain open to all other organized groups who are fighting for the same end.

7)  We strive to maintian our pride as did the ancestral inhabitants of our region with our languages and our many customs.  We know well that with our new work and activity, our culture is changing too.  But we don’t want to fall into the trap of losing our culture in the face of the many foreign things that we do not prefer, such as the culture of the wealthy and of those who try to exploit us.

8)  We will be more conscious of our situation of misery and poverty that has been imposed upon us.  God our Father does not want this misery for us and neither do our children.  For this reason we must learn and discuss more about this topic.

9)  It is important that we continue to be more and better informed.  Studying and reading is one thing, but the most important is to be learning together with each step we take along our path.

10)   Fighting and struggling together is, for us, a lifestyle.  We will not achieve everything, but little by little, with perseverence, patience, spirit and faith we will achieve what we need and desire.  And we have already discovered that indeed we can!  We have found the the phrase “we can’t” does not exist.  We know that there are traps and obstacles; small and large stones along our path.  But together we can move them.  Discouragement, dishonesty, poor treatment and defamations are all stones that our enemies place before us on our path.  And enemies of the villages do indeed exist: coyotes, monopolizers, imposter professionals, and corrupt politicians who are looking for their own advancement at the expense of the villages.
